OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy is a four-year degree program consisting of general education and professional courses. It also includes an internship program that involves assigning students to different CHED-accredited affiliation centers that cater to various patient/client populations for a minimum of 1500 hours.

Physical Therapy is a branch of medicine concerned with promotion of health, prevention of physical disabilities, evaluation and rehabilitation of persons disabled by pain, disease, or injury, and with treatment by physical therapeutic measures as opposed to medical, surgical, or radiologic measures. The program aims to produce physical therapists who are competent to fulfill professional responsibilities in the following areas: patient/client care in various settings for different populations, education for patients/clients and physical therapy students in professional courses, administration and management of physical therapy institutions and facilities, lifelong learning for the development of the professional health promotion, advocacy for the advancement of the profession, community service and development and research.

The College of Physical Therapy of Calayan Educational Foundation, Inc. envisions itself to be the center of excellence for physical therapy education in the province of Quezon.

MISSION

The College of Physical Therapy of Calayan Educational Foundation, Inc. aims to align its program to the vision and mission of the institution in general and make education responsive to the demands for manpower in the allied health services both locally and globally. Specifically, it aims to produce individuals who are humane and scientifically competent to deliver the full spectrum of physical therapy services required in the modern healthcare. To achieve this end, the college has planned integrated and sequential courses of study utilizing deductive instruction, laboratory practice and clinical with the integration of the institution’s core values of honour, scholarship and service.

History of the Department

     In April 13, 1998, a Goverment Recognition by the Commission on Higher Education was granted to Calayan Educational Foundation, Inc. to conduct and operate the Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy Course. The Kalayaan Hall was chosen as the location of the PT Program while Dr. Espiritu was the Dean. It was subsequently merged with other paramedical courses called College of Health and Sciences. Since then, the college produced graduates who became part of the health industry in Quezon and nearby provinces. 

At present, the college offers one of the fastest growing and highest demand health-related programs in the therapeutic and rehabilitative sciences.
