OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT

     The field of Criminology is a study of crimes and the various agencies of criminal justice as they operate and react to crimes, criminals, and victims. It is therefore the mission of the Criminology program to provide the community with professionally competent and morally upright graduates who can deliver efficient services in crime prevention, crime detection and investigation, law enforcement, and custody and rehabilitation of offenders among others. Pursuant to this endeavor, the college has the following mission, vision and program educational objectives.

VISION

The College of Criminology and Criminal Justice envision itself as one of leading Criminology Schools in the region to prepare students to develop careers in public safety through outstanding instruction, research endeavors, and community extension services.

MISSION

As an academic department of the Calayan Educational Foundation, Inc. (CEFI), the College of Criminology and Criminal Justice is committed to train graduates to be ethically responsible and competent professionals, who can render excellent service in the field of public safety and other related services.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO)

The official logo of the college is represented by laurel wreaths as a symbol of peace and victory over criminality. The book symbolizes learning and knowledge of criminological theories of crime and the magnifying lens represents searching for the truth to bring about justice as symbolized by the sword and scale.

For those whose inclination is in the security and detective investigation works, Criminology graduates find meaningful careers as security and protection officers of the Bangko Sentral ang Pilipinas (BSP), Office of the Solicitor General (OSG), and security officers/security managers of Hotels and Casinos.  For the more entrepreneurial graduates, they established their own security agency or training schools and land as security manager and/or security trainers.

Likewise, for those who like to pursue further studies, they enroll in law schools and become practicing lawyers, corporate lawyers, and public prosecutors.   Some pursue training in forensics and become private examiners in the field of dactyloscopy, ballistics, questioned document and polygraphy. Similarly, those criminology graduates who enjoys nurturing young minds, find solace in pursuing a career as college professors and administrators.

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

     Calayan Educational Foundation, Inc, envisioned itself as a premiere institution of learning in the CALABARZON. As part of its commitment to uplift the quality of life in the region, the visionary leaders of CEFI offered in June of 2010 Bachelor of Science in Criminology to develop outstanding graduates in the field of public safety. The management tapped the expertise of Dr. Dennis S. Lagumen to develop the necessary program of instruction (POI) based on Outcomes-Based Education (OBE). The main goal is to produce graduates who have the knowledge and skills in addressing the problems of criminality in the country and the competence to meet the challenge of globalization in the field of criminology. The BS Criminology program of CEFI obtained its government recognition on December 2013 by virtue of Government Recognition Certificate No. 120, Series of 2013.

As proof of its unwavering commitment to excellence, the College of Criminology and Criminal Justice have garnered exemplary performance in the Licensure Examination for Criminologists with the following track records:

The outstanding performance in the Licensure Examination for Criminologists has confirmed that CEFI is providing the best criminology program in the province.

This is attributable to the impeccable faculty “power house” of the college. The dean of the college is a PhD in Criminology and a seasoned accreditor of PACUCOA. He is a recipient of various trainings sponsored by the United States Department of Justice – Overseas Prosecutorial Development Assistance and Training. Moreover, the members of the faculty have impressive credentials such as seasoned lawyers, highly decorated police officers and NBI special agents; and most especially esteem academicians in the field of criminology.
